DISC DEGENERATION CONFERENCE
Speaker for Session
Andrew Quaile qualified from Charing Cross Hospital in 1978 and spent a number of years practising medicine in the Royal Navy. He then joined the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps and completed his orthopaedic surgical training at Southampton General Hospital, in the UK.  On accreditation as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1992 he pursued a career in Australia initially as a Consultant in Orthopaedics in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, and then in full time private practice with a special interest in spines based at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane, Australia.  On his return to the UK he took up a Consultant post in general orthopaedics, with a special interest in spines, at the East Somerset Trust for two years. In October 1998 he was appointed Consultant Spinal & Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Frimley Park Hospital NHS Trust. In 2004 Mr Quaile made the decision to leave the NHS and set up in full time private practice with the aim of developing a multi disciplinary organisation of specialists committed to providing high quality spinal care to individuals.  His practice was almost exclusively that of spinal disorders. Mr Quaile is keen to offer patients the option of non operative solutions for their symptoms before considering surgery unless there is no alternative. When surgery is appropriate he would tend to consider minimal access techniques first and foremost as they are less invasive and have fewer risks and complications. He holds monthly clinical meetings, ensuring best practice at the BMI Hampshire Clinic Hospital.
